3 Things I've Learned as a Social Media Manager

Did I have the necessary experience to understand how to market our specific business? Probably not. Have I learned a few useful lessons along the way? For sure!

While working at Kaizen-Life, I have spent two years in the role of “Social Media Manager”. This role was handed to me a bit haphazard-ly with a sudden supply and demand issue. Honestly, it’s not something that I ever had much desire to take on, but I knew the ropes from doing social media for my own business and I was willing to learn, so there we go!

Any time you are working with a newer business, most people are doing at least two or three different jobs until there is demand for more hiring. In Kaizen-Life, it is just the same!
Did I have the necessary experience to understand how to market our specific business? Probably not. Have I learned a few useful lessons along the way? For sure! Whether you are looking to expand your personal business’ social media, or you are wanting to learn the basics to start, here are three of the most useful things I have learned as a social media manager.

1. Consistency is KEY.
When I stepped into this position, that was the first thing I brought to the table. I love a schedule, and I love to create systems, so this is always my favorite part! I created a monthly calendar and assessed each month as it came. This isn’t rocket science, by any means, but it certainly has helped us grow in the last couple of years! The best way to keep pushing out content and seeing growth is to stay consistent!
2. Just make the reel.
In the earlier experience that I had with social media I was selling baked goods. The reels were easy to make look good (who doesn’t love cake?) and always had fairly good numbers! Moving into a business where the numbers fluctuate immensely, and I must show up IN the reels was a bit of an adjustment. But I learned that showing up and making the reel, regardless of how you feel doing it, is more important! Often, the ones that I put the least amount of thought into are the ones that do the best!
3. Keep your pillars in mind!
We have marketing pillars outlined over here at Kaizen-Life, and it is always a redeeming feature for me when I’m feeling a bit of writer’s block! We strive to educate, entertain, and have fun (just to name a few) and that is so helpful! These are the standards for our marketing and help guide the direction of our content across all our platforms. If you are struggling to find content to post about, consider the pillars you want to build your marketing strategy on.

So, there it is! While there were growing pains, and things didn’t always work out the way I had envisioned them, I know that I have put my best foot forward when it comes to our social media marketing. I hope that you learned something in this post or feel confident to push through the uncomfortable parts that come with putting yourself out there! Good luck!
